Sad days for our family

Yesterday, 12/16, my father-in-law passed away and although we know that he was very close to God and he is now in heaven with his very beloved wife who left us entirely to early 10 years ago, it is still very hard.  The worst part so far was telling my teenage daughters.  And it is amazing how they surprise you.  My super senstive one, took it the best and was only concerned about comforting others.  And Tay, who is less open emotionally has taken it far harder than I ever expected.  I hope that you will pray for our little family.  Dad leaves behind three children, two children by marriage and four grandchildren.  He was very respected and much loved and will be greatly missed.  Rest in Peace, Dad, and hug Mom for us.

And since I don't know that I will make it back to blog prior to the holidays.  I just wanted to wish you all a VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS and a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Cricut Challenge Entry

So this month's Cricut Challenge was to use this card sketch.

And this is my take on it.

I used a basic white 5x7 card and K&Company Printed Paper and Bazzill Teal Cardstock.  I also used Martha Stewart Glitter,  an Impression Obsession Shake It.  The Cricut Cartridges used were All Mixed Up, Christmas, Doodlecharms and Winter Woodland. I did move the title, as it wouldn't fit above the snowglobe. Hope you like it.

Christmas Glitter Ornaments

Well I've gotten them all glittered and a couple of the big ones done.  I'll be finishing the little ones for all the nieces and nephews on Friday.  I'm going to glass etch their first initial on them with the the year on the back. I asked them their favorites colors, thus all the repeats of colors.  Still need to buy another box of large ones, to make a married first Christmas together ornament for my 18yr old niece, who surprised us all in July by getting married at the courthouse while in Colorado without telling anyone, including her mother until it was over. Wagging finger -- "Bad, Lishy!" -- They are having a ceremony on their 1st anniversary for the family, but since this will be their first Christmas, an ornament is in order.

The large pink one is Tay's for this year and is done in pink glitter with black embossing powder to match her room.  It was my first time trying embossing and it turned out OK, but it was harder to work with than etching so I probably won't do many more that way. Rachie's is the teal one and hers will have brown embossing for her room, but I have to go get some as I have every color under the rainbow but brown.

The Cricut is for my Scrap Happy display (the store where I teach Cricut classes), then home to my scrap area, when I finally get one.

The red with snowflakes is also for Scrap Happy and it is made with Silhouette flocked heat transfer material and has three different snowflakes around it.  I just love how it turned out.

Well more Christmas projects to come.  I'm working on a family frame as a gift for my sister-in-law.  Last year I gave her glass etched canisters for her kitchen.

I've also got a tote bag for the youngest niece in the works, just waiting on more flocked vinyl colors to come in.

And since my last post which was an eternity ago, I won a Yudu at a Cricut event in Cincinnati, so I've got shirts and tote bags planned too.  Not to mention I've got to finish the sample projects for my January and February cartridge exploration classes.  Good thing my photography season is winding down.

Absent so long...

I apologize for being absent for so long.
It's crazy how fast time flies.
We've been on vacation since my last post and here are a few pics from our trip to Daytona Beach, Orlando, and Gatlinburg.
We stayed our first night in Florida at a little motel in Dayton Beach Shores.  This is the view from our dor.

This is 3/4 of the family, Rachel is behind the camera.  My husband is completely afraid of water, so getting him to this point was truly a miracle.  The one below is my oldest, Taylor.

This one is a bird that we were 2 feet from on the beach at Daytona.

Tags, Bags, Boxes & More....50 Boxes, 100 Cookies, 1 Chocolate Project

Rachel, my 8th grader, had to do a Chocolate Project (think science fair).  So that meant that Daddy and I got to "help."  Daddy designed the box after Rachel gave him the idea of what she wanted.  Then we printed and cut them on the Expression using Tags, Bags, Boxes & More.  It was a loooonnnggg Sunday.

My first attempts at using the Cricut Cake to decorate a real cake

My baby turned 14 on Mother's Day.  She is a SpongeBob fan and so we made a simple two layer (yes, from a box, yes with store bought frosting, who are we kidding here) chocolate cake with cream cheese frosting tinted blue.  We  cut SpongeBob for the top and Patrick and the  pineapple for the sides.  We also cut Sandy, but broke her trying to move her and I was too tired by then to roll and cut another one.  We also cut a few pieces of seaweed for the sides.
All in all, for a first attempt I think it turned out ok.

Taylor, my 15 yr old, decided she needed a cake too, so she used the Hanna Montana cartridge to cut a guitar, then she decided instead of doing the second layer, she'd just paint the strings on with black food coloring.  We cut her nickname out of one of the cake cartridges, sorry I don't remember which one. 

I had a demo on Mother's Day at Michael's so here is a shot of the demo cake that I did.

My First Demo at Michaels

I received my demo kit (above) so, of course, I had to open it all up and lay it all out on the kitchen table. 

These are from my first demo at Michaels on Sunday. 

 It went well and I can't wait for next Sunday to do it all again.

Still Waiting...

I am (not so) patiently waiting for my demo kit to arrive from Provo Craft.  I am  scheduled to do my first Cricut Cake demo on Sunday, May 2nd at Michael's in Toledo, Ohio.  I'm still recovering from the great weekend of training and fun in Chicago.  I met so many great ladies.  I made some really great friends and had a blast! Now all I want is for the Cricut Cake to arrive so I can play, play, play.  I'll post pics when it gets here and my first attempts at using it.

I got the job!!!! I got the job as a Cricut Demonstrator.

I'm SOOOOOO EXCITED!  I'm going to Chicago this weekend for training.  Will update you all as soon as I get more info.

Memories Scrapbooking Expo - Columbus Ohio

Got home from Columbus late last night, spent Friday night with my best friend in the world (other than my DH) and then yesterday we went to MSE. We had a good time and believe it or not I got out with only spending $40 and $30 of that was at a $1 booth.
I got a lot of great ideas and have several ideas to scraplift. I attended a Copic Marker class and it really wasn't worth the $25. I learned more by watching YouTube videos. Oh well, lesson learned. I am still considering going to the Great Lakes Mega Meet in Michigan (if I can convince the husband that is "necessary," hehehe).

I'm going to work on a few Cricut cut designs this afternoon and will post them after I've got them perfected.

Bee-autiful Cards

Good Afternoon, it is sunny and warm in Ohio today...YEAH!

I stopped at Hobby Lobby on my way home from work today and scored the cutest stamp on clearance. So I thought, I'd make a few cards. I like really simple cards that I can drop in the kids backpacks or hubby's lunch or send to a friend who needs a little boost. I colored this one with my Copic markers and it turned out ok. I just hand wrote the sentiment on this one, because my daughter used my letter stamps and I can't find them. Will make another tomorrow to post, after I locate the stamps.

Invitation to join

Christmas Gifts 2009 My Cricut Wordle

Welcome to my blog.


This is my first blog post, so please bear with me. I wanted to share with you the gifts that I made with my Cricut for Christmas 2009.



I made my version of a Wordle , but made it with my Cricut and CDS (Cricut Design Studio) . The first one is a 12x24 that I created for my Grandmother who will be 85 this May and it has the word Family in the center with her name and Grandpa's surrounded by all the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren's names. This was a challenge and I made the mistake of using heavy watercolor paper which I had used a metallic gold stamp pad to highlight the texture of the paper. The problem with using this paper was that it was so thick that the fine details did not cut well and of course I had welded the whole thing so it was a bear to get off the mat without tearing. I used the Stone Script font and it was just to delicate for this application but I'd already jumped in with both feet so I changed it up for the remaining ones. My beautiful daughter Rachel helped to glue it down and it is by no means perfect or straight but Grandma Bernie loved it and it is proudly hanging in her living room.



When I did the second one I used just a good heavy cardstock and of course it was smaller but I did not weld the names together in CDS and just glued them down next to each other and it turned out much better. Mom loved it, although she wasn't surprised since we had already been to Christmas at Gram's house before she got hers.

PS Answering a comment: For the second one I used a heavy textured cardstock and again used the gold ink to highlight the texture (which doesn't show up very well in the photo) and then the black background cardstock is also textured and has a bit of the gold ink on. In person it is has a great depth. I am working on creating something similiar for my family that includes a little glass etching on the frame for some depth. I will post when it is finished.
