Tuesday Technique: Napkin Cards

I decided why wait for the new year to get started on the new ideas.  I may not post weekly yet, lots and lots going on around here but I will try to do one of the new features each week until the end of the year.

Today's Tuesday Technique post is all about Napkin Cards.  Now, this is not a new technique, but I'd hazard a guess that some of you have never seen this one.

I'm involved in several Facebook swap groups, and this has become a very popular swap.  So I've created quite a few cards made with napkins over the last few months and I'll share a few of them here with you today.

How to make a napkin card in 6 simple steps.
1. Find your napkin!
2. Separate the printed layer of the napkin from the supporting layers.  I use a piece of masking tape on the center of the back of the napkin to "tear" away the supporting layers.
3. Run a piece of card stock (I use cheap white card stock for this) through your Xyron 5" sticker maker or apply double sided adhesive sheets (there are lots of brands, but Sizzix is one of my favorites, see link at end of post)
4. Add your single printed napkin layer to the adhesive.
5. Coat your napkin with VersaMark ink and coat with clear embossing powder or clear with glitter embossing powder (Iridescent Ice Stampin' Emboss Powder by Stampin' Up is my favorite). Set with heating gun.

That's it.  That's all there is too it.  It is a simple and easy way to make a card front and there are so many cute napkins out there.

This one is a Christmas card.

Sorry it is sideways. Fall napkin card with heat embossed sentiment on vellum.
Don't forget to share your napkin cards with me.  Just upload them in the comments section.  Can't wait to see what you make using this simple technique.  BTW, you can use napkins on plain stone tiles to make coasters too.

Want to see this technique in a video? Check out this one by Stampin' Up demonstrator Tina Weller.  She explains the technique very well.

Happy Crafting!

New things in are happening at ScrapsByGracie in the new year...

Hi to all in blog land,

I've been doing a lot of thinking and working on scrapbooking and card making in the last couple of months. As I plan for the new year, I've decided to dedicate more time to this blog.  My plan in to post twice weekly.

On Tuesdays, I will post a new feature called Tuesday Techniques and will feature a different card making or scrapbooking technique and samples created with that technique.  I'll also point you in the direction of other crafters and their examples of the technique.

On Fridays, I will post a new weekly challenge feature.  Each week I will post a sketch or technique challenge. I will give you my examples of the challenge/sketch. You are encouraged to share your work with us via the comments section of each challenge. I would love to see how you interpreted the challenge or sketch.

I'm also going to be asking some of my wonderful crafty friends to stop by at least a couple times a month and share their talents with you too.

I'd love to hear what else you'd like to see in 2015, so leave me a comment below.

Have a wonderful rest of 2014 and I'll see you soon.
