Blooming Flowers Blog Hop May 30th

Welcome to the

Today's hop is sponsored by Card A Day Challenge Blog

and the prize package you could win

To win just comment on the blogs in the hop today.  That's it! It's that simple.

We would also appreciate you following the blogs too.

Now on with the hop.

Have you ever found yourself with pieces and parts of cards laying all over your table?
When I'm learning (playing with) a new technique or die, product, etc.  I tend to make several pieces at the same time.
If you are a follower of my blog you may have seen when I was playing with crumpled wax paper and inks.  Well this inked piece was laying in the basket on my desk along with the grid die cut.

I layered them with a little yellow card stock on a white card base and added a layered fabric flower
and the banner sentiment.   It is different but I think I like it.
The next three cards all cards that I created while in a class at Mega Meet Scrapbooking Expo in April.  The class gave you a card kit and directions but none of these cards follow the directions as written.  I'm not good at that.  I like to be unique and create my own cards with the supplies given.

Thanks for stopping by today your next stop is Ashley at  http://marinewifesscrappinlife.blogspot.com.

Thanks for hopping with us. Don't forget to leave a comment to be entered into the prize drawing.
Happy Crafting

Mask-erade - Online Card Classes Day 3

Day 3 of Mask-erade by Online Card Classes was all about liquid masking techniques and products. I don't own any of the frisket or liquid art masking products but I do own good ole Elmer's Rubber Cement and as Jennifer McGuire says it works just as well if not better than the rest and is CHEAP!

Gotta love cheap!

So I got busy with some Elmer's Rubber Cement and Ranger Distress Watercolor Paper and Ranger Distress Inks and my Copics.

For this first card, I hand drew a balloon and used the ERC to mask around the outside and water colored the inside using my Ranger Distress Inks. I added a little Copic marker around the balloon once it was dry and added the string with Copic Black.  I finished it off with Crystal Effects.

For this second one I used a bird from Stampers Anonymous Bird Crazy and colored it with Copic Markers then masked it and created the background with Ranger Distress Inks.

For the other four I used a Plaid stencil and the Rubber Cement to create the butterflies, then used Ranger Distress Inks to create the watercolor backgrounds.

I used Heidi Swapp Color Mist in White on a couple of these cards.

The stamp sets I used include: Simon Says Stamp Absolute Delightful, Hero Arts Thank You for Being My Friend and My Favorite Things New Beginnings.

Mask-erade - Online Card Classes Day 2

Today is Day 2 of  Mask-erade by Online Card Classes.

I can hear you thinking, "Why would I pay for a class, when there is free content on YouTube and Pinterest?"   Let me tell you why.  Yes, you can find free content all over the net, you can even watch these wonderful teachers (Jennifer McGuire, Kristina Werner, Debby Hughes, Laura Bassen and Shari Carroll) on YouTube and their blogs, but by taking the classes, you get a concentrated dose of the same subject by each of the teachers with their spin on it.  You get wonderful PDFs to support the videos and you get the opportunity to interact directly with the teachers in the forums and you get to see the work of your classmates in the gallery.  You get feedback and encouragement, education and inspiration all in one place.

I'm not getting paid for my endorsement.  I just believe in sharing what I find helpful with you.

Okay, on with today's projects...

I made three different cards for today's classes.

Card 1:

I used Ranger Watercolor Paper and Ranger Distress Inks to create the background.I also sprayed the background with Heidi Swapp Gold Color Mist.  Stamp sets include MFT New Beginnings for the bottom sentiment and Hampton Arts Vintologic for the rest.  All the black is stamped in Versa Fine Black Onyx Ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder.
I created the circle mask that I used to stamp the feathers with
MFT Blueprints 12 Die-namics.  After I stamped I used my fine line pen to make the dashed lines around the outside of the circle.
 Card 2:
I used the same circle mask for this card. I used the negative die space first to color the circle in using Ranger Distress Ink Mermaid Lagoon and Tumbled Glass.  The sentiment is from Wplus9 Spring Post stamp set.  I used Delicata Silver Pigment Ink for the flowers which are from Inkadinkado Flowers stamp set and I added dots from the MFT Bokeh Builder stamp set.
 Card 3:
I used the Stained Glass Stencil by Clear Scraps with Dreamweaver Translucent Embossing Paste that I colored with Pearl Ex #682 Duo Green-Yellow.   The mask for the double end banner came from the same MFT Blueprints 12 Die-namics set that I used for the other cards.   The sentiment is from a stamp set that I have no idea what the name is or brand is,
but I use it all the time.

Hope you like them.  I'm really happy with how they turned out.

Mask-erade - Online Card Classes Day 1

I'm participating in the Online Card Classes Mask-erade Class that started today.

It is not to late to participate in the class.  Since OCC classes never expire, you can access the class content forever once you have purchased them.  The only things that go away after the actual class is over is the ability to add to the gallery and the prizes.

So today's lesson was on using masking paper to create a card.

I used Inkadinkado masking paper along with two stamp sets, Doodle Flowers by Inkadinkado and Delightful by Simon Says Stamp.  I used Stampin' Up cardstock for my card base and Memento Tuxedo Black Ink for the stamping and Copic Markers to color in the flowers.

And here is a cautionary tale too...
Don't change coloring mediums after you have stamped your images, unless
you know the ink you used is good for both mediums.

I stamped these cuties in Memento black ink with the thought of coloring them in with Copic markers, which Memento ink is perfect for. Then I decided I didn't have  the perfect marker color for sky, so I grab my Ranger Distress Inks.  Ok, with the black ink masked this wouldn't have been a big deal...until...I sprayed it with water to get the colors to blend better.
As you can see the ink ran and now my poor little chick, has a black eye.
I guess life in the barnyard isn't as easy as everyone thinks. LOL

Waffle Flower Challenge

StampNation's challenge last week was sponsored by Waffle Flower Stamps.  Design Team Member Heather North found this great image as the inspiration piece.  It was just too funny to resist.

Can you believe that? Flowers made from waffles on a challenge sponsored by Waffle Flower Stamps.  LOL

Here is my submission to the challenge:

I used a pre-printed ombre pink card base and stamped the flowers and bug and colored them with Copic markers.

Watercoloring + Action Wooblers = Stinkin' Cute Cards

Just had to share the cards I made this week for a card swap.

They are for a Pop-up Card Swap, so something on the card had to pop up when taken out of the envelope.  I choose to use Action Wobblers to create my pop up element but Jennifer McGuire has a great tutorial on how to create your own pop up element on YouTube.

Here is are the cards I created.  I used Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Bird Crazy stamp and Ranger Distress Inks to create the backgrounds on Ranger Watercolor Paper.

The birds were stamped in My Favorite Things Hybrid Black Ink and were either watercolored with distress inks or colored with Copic markers.  Most of them also are coated in Wink of Stella Clear Glitter Brush Pen.

I hope my swapper buddies like them as much as I do.

Corner Challenge

So a couple of weeks ago on StampNation, Maureen's challenge was to create a card that had a corner focus.

This was the inspiration photo.

Here is my card for the challenge.

This is a one layer card, created from a StampNation sketch, using masking to create the "layers."
I used Ranger Distress Black Ink for the stripe and the I used the new Ranger Distress Ink color Cracked Pistachio for the background. Isn't is pretty?!?  I cut the label element from Inkadinkado Masking Paper and placed it before I inked. The hearts and sentiment are inked with VersaFine Black Onyx Ink and clear heat embossed. I sprayed the card front with glimmer mist.

I really like how it turned out.  I stamped a birthday greeting on the inside and mailed it off to my BFF whose birthday was last week.

Welcome to Mexico!
My layouts are from my cruise that I took with a wonderful group of crafty friends in November. Our last port of call was Cozumel, Mexico.  We spent the day visiting the Mayan Ruins.  If you ever get the chance to go be sure to wear comfortable shoes and lots of bug spray. This is not any easy walk around the block. You are hiking over hilly (and on the day we visited...muddy, it poured rain that morning and it was a slip sliding good time) and rocky terrain. If you are a history buff though it is well worth the trek.
